About Me:
Steve had the privilege of working with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, Nigeria, immediately after he graduated from high school. He was funded by IITA to obtain a B.Sc. in Microbiology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He later studied crop protection at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, where he successfully received a post-graduate diploma.
He was appointed in 1993 as a Research Supervisor at IITA and in 1999 he became a Senior Research Supervisor At IITA, his scope of work and job description centered on mass rearing of insect pests of cowpea and maize, coordinating the varietal screening of breeders trials with mass-reared insects, mass rearing and releases of parasitoid of maize stem borer and legume pod borer, microbial control of insect pests of maize and cowpea, and survey of insect pests of maize and cowpea and their antagonists (pathogens and parasitoids). He coordinated NRI/ODA microbial control of maize stem borer project in Nigeria in year 1997 to 1998. Steve trained National Agricultural Research Stations (NARS) scientists on maintenance of exotic pests and their arthropod antagonists. He also collaborated with plant pathologists on aflatoxin research.
While in IITA, he served as president of the Association of Science Students Technologists, IITA Chapter for the year 1990 to 1992. He also served as financial secretary of IITA Senior Staff Association for the year 2002 to 2005. He was the chairman of IITA Sports and Social Center between 2004 and 2007. Steve served as the head of Insect Rearing Unit (IRU) from year 1999 until he resigned his appointment with IITA in December, 2007 after 22 years of dedicated services.
Steve is a member of the following societies: Nigerian Institute of Science Technology, Nigerian Society of Plant Protection, American Phytopathology Society, and Entomological Society of America.
He is currently pursuing a M.Sc. program in Entomology at the University of Idaho.
