About Me: 
Marwa Halmy is a PhD Student in Environmental Science Department.

 

She attended Alexandria University in Egypt, where she earned a Bachelor’s and Master of Science Degree in Environmental Science.

 

Upon graduation Marwa was appointed as a demonstrator in Environmental Science Department-College of Science-Alexandria University in Egypt. She was then promoted as an assistant lecturer in the same department upon having her Master of Science degree in Environmental Science. During the time she worked in the Department of Environmental Science she gained a good experience in teaching practical classes and labs for the undergraduate students.

 

Marwa was awarded a grant from UNESCO-Man and Biosphere program (MAB), for Young Scientists 2000, for funding the study of “The role of grass species in rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems in the El Omayed Biosphere Reserve, Egypt”. She was also awarded a Fulbright Commission Scholarship, as a non-degree student in Idaho University, USA, for the year 2007-2008. She started her study as a PhD student in the Environmental Science Department-University of Idaho upon having a grant from the Egyptian Government for funding her study.

 

She participated in the research project "Conservation and Sustainable Use of Wild Medicinal Plants in Arid and Semi-arid Ecosystems, Egypt" that was sponsored by GEF, EEAA, UNDP, 2005-2006. She also participated in the multinational research project "Sustainable Management of Marginal Dry Lands, Egypt" (SUMAMAD), 2004-2007, that was implemented in 8 countries and was coordinated by UNESCO, United Nations University and ICARDA.

 

Marwa is a member of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and she is a Founding member of the Egyptian non-governmental organization, “Ecosystems and Human Development Association” (EHDA), a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), U of I Chapter. Marwa was a member of the ASA constitution review committee, and served as the Acting Vice-President to end the 2008-2009 executive terms and is currently the Vice-President of the African Student Association.
